Fire razes Duraplast's pipe warehouse in Accra’s North Industrial Area, leaving over 10,000 tons of stock lost. Manager blames illegal structures, empty hydrants, delayed response.

An early fire at the North Industrial Area in Accra has completely destroyed Duraplast’s pipe storage facility.

The warehouse, holding more than 10,000 tons of pipes, was consumed by flames that began in a cluster of illegal structures behind the company’s wall. Marketing Manager Emmanuel Donkor confirmed the total loss, noting that the fire spread rapidly due to the presence of those unauthorized buildings.

Two fire engines arrived but faced empty hydrants and poor access, forcing the company to contact Ghana Water for emergency supplies. Donkor emphasized that an earlier response could have prevented the extensive damage.

The incident highlights ongoing risks from illegal constructions near industrial sites in Accra’s growing suburbs.

Duraplast has not released details on financial impact or recovery steps as of yet, but will likely need to rebuild its stock and improve fire safety measures on site.
