Dr Bawumia's Digital Platform Was Built Five Years Before US and Nigeria Copy It

America and Nigeria have recently launched digital government portals that Ghana already used in 2021
The United States modeled its new President Donald Trump launched America.Gov in Washington D C on Monday September 29 2026. On its Independence Day Nigeria switched on its National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System. Both initiatives have been hailed as groundbreaking in their respective capitals. But what America and Nigeria are celebrating was actually created by Ghana years earlier. Ghana launched Ghana.Gov on July 14 2021 under the leadership of then Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. The platform was built from scratch by Ghanaian IT experts at the Jubilee House. It gave every citizen a single place to access government services. This included paying for services without queues and seeing revenue in real time. What America is now doing with fanfare, Ghana has been doing since 2021. Five years ahead! Nigeria's postcode system also mirrors Ghana's earlier model. Last year Ghana introduced a unique digital address system for every building. Nigeria is now copying this approach. America.Gov uses AI technology similar to what Ghana employed with Google Gemini and xAI Grok. The White House describes this as revolutionary. But Ghana already knew this potential. Dr Bawumia's team created the exact framework America now celebrates. Both modern portals share the same core design from Accra. The Ghanaian version proves the technology works across Africa and beyond. Its success shows Ghana's role as an innovation leader. What happens next matters deeply. Other nations watch Ghana's digital models closely. America and Nigeria have now validated a vision born in Ghana. The world will continue to turn to Ghana for digital solutions. Ghana's early work remains the blueprint for global government technology.
