Deputy Education Minister Urges West African Nations to Boost Domestic Financing for Emergency Education

Deputy Minister of Education Dr Clement Abas Apaak has urged member states of the West African sub-region to increase domestic financing for education during emergencies. Speaking at a regional forum, he highlighted that reliable funding is vital to keep schools functional when crises strike, especially for vulnerable children.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns that conflicts, pandemics and natural disasters continue to disrupt learning across West Africa. Dr Apaak reminded policymakers that Ghana has consistently allocated budgetary resources to protect education in its own emergency response plans.
He therefore encouraged neighbouring countries to adopt similar domestic strategies while strengthening regional collaboration to share best practices and early warning systems. Stakeholders say such measures could reduce the education gap that often widens during humanitarian crises.
