Construction begins on Western North Regional Referral Hospital
Contractors have started building a new 160-bed regional hospital near Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region. The project aims to expand specialised care for residents across the area.
Work officially started on the 160-bed Western North Regional Referral Hospital close to Sefwi Wiawso. The facility covers about 21,500 square metres and will offer specialised and referral health services.
The project is part of the government’s plan to build three 160-bed regional hospitals in the Oti, Savannah and Western North regions. Its purpose is to improve access to higher-level medical care for people living outside major cities.
Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications, announced the start of work on his Facebook page on September 30. He described the move as a major step toward delivering a needed health facility for the region.
President-elect John Dramani Mahama had earlier said he would cut the sod for these hospitals as part of efforts to strengthen health delivery in all districts. The Western North project will join similar facilities being built in the other two regions once completed.
