Drivers and traders across Ghana continue to feel moderate pressure as the cedi holds steady against the dollar while the pound experiences minor fluctuations.
The Bank of Ghana kept its official exchange rate firm at 11.70 cedis per US dollar on Thursday, reporting no change in the morning's market operations. This stability comes as global currency markets react to shifting economic indicators beyond Ghana's borders.
Last week's trading showed the British pound fluctuating between 15.5220 and 15.5376 cedis per pound, though this specific pair wasn't elaborated upon in official notices. Market observers note these movements reflect wider dollar strength affecting multiple African currencies.
Business groups in Accra and Kumasi indicate importers remain watchful but uncomplaining, as the steady dollar rate offers some predictability for fuel and import-dependent goods.
The Monetary Policy Committee is expected to review conditions again next month, though no announcement about potential adjustments has been made.
Foreign exchange dealers report smoother transactions throughout the week, with hotels and airlines maintaining their published rates without revision.
