Blaze destroys personal belongings in three-room unit at Akweteyman
A fire has completely razed personal possessions of a resident in a three-chamber-and-hall self-contained apartment within the Accra neighbourhood of Akweteyman.
Smoke billowed from a three-chamber-and-hall self-contained apartment in Akweteyman on Tuesday afternoon, leaving all stored household items reduced to ash. Neighbours reported seeing flames engulf the living area around 2:30 PM before the Ghana Fire Service arrived. The inferno consumed every piece of furniture, clothing and kitchenware kept in the modest dwelling.
Residents described moments of panic as thick smoke filled the stairwell, forcing several families to evacuate their compounds quickly. No injuries were recorded, authorities confirmed, but the emotional toll on the affected household runs deep. The apartment belongs to a local petty trader, one of many who depend on small gains from daily trade to sustain their families.
Fire Service officers worked through the evening to extinguish lingering embers, though the cause remains under investigation. Community leaders have urged affected residents to support one another as recovery begins.
