Bawumia says today marks the beginning of a new chapter for the NPP as the party holds elections and urges unity ahead of 2028

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that today, Saturday, October 3, marks the beginning of a glorious chapter for the New Patriotic Party. The party is holding its National Delegates Congress in Kumasi to elect new national executives in preparation for the 2028 general elections. In his address, Bawumia urged all aspirants to accept the election results in good faith. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, speaking at the same event, called on the NPP and the Minority to boldly hold the Mahama government accountable without fear of arrest or intimidation. He emphasized that the NPP has a duty to scrutinize government decisions and ensure accountability. Former President John Akufo-Addo, in a video message, appealed to party members to select leaders who can restore public confidence and steer Ghana toward prosperity. He stressed that true sovereignty lies with the people and that the NPP must regain their trust. The party has proposed constitutional amendments for consideration at the congress, aiming to strengthen its structures ahead of the next election cycle. Businessman and former minister Fifi Kwetey has also commented on the NPP's vision, stating that Ghana needs the party to lead the country toward economic transformation. The NPP has reiterated its commitment to unity and national development as it moves toward the 2028 elections. The party's National Delegates Congress in Kumasi serves as a key platform for electing new leadership and shaping its policy direction. The event brings together party delegates, members, and stakeholders to participate in the electoral process. The amendments to the party constitution are intended to enhance governance and ensure effective leadership in the upcoming electoral cycle. The NPP has called for collective effort to reorganize the party and support its flagbearer, Dr Bawumia, in the national agenda.
