Social activist Oliver Barker Vormawor says he has lost Ghana’s battle against galamsey and warns against government claims.

Social activist Oliver Barker Vormawor has declared that Ghana has lost its fight against galamsey. In a recent social media post he said Ghanaians should not believe any propaganda claiming the state is winning. He urged people to travel and see the reality for themselves. Shalom, he wrote.

The comment comes after President John Dramani Mahama spoke in the United States about government actions against the menace. He said the state has recorded some successes but acknowledged further work is needed. He explained that nine forest reserves previously marked as red zones have now been cleared of miners, and the military has taken up permanent positions there to stop a return.

Mahama noted that declaring a state of emergency across all ten regions affected by galamsey would be impractical. He said such a declaration concentrates resources on isolated areas but galamsey spreads across many regions, making it hard to isolate a single location. The comments were cut off before he finished explaining the rights implications of a state of emergency.
