Ayikuma Methodist Basic School Wins 2026 National Juniors Challenge

After three straight appearances in the National Juniors Challenge final, Ayikuma Methodist Basic School have finally lifted the 2026 Zincovit National Juniors Challenge trophy. The Accra-Dodowa school edged out Kay-Billie-Klaer International School of Ada in a closely fought final at the Pentecost International Worship Centre in Dansoman, Accra. The competition, organised by Uniwiz Foundation, saw 286 schools start the race, with only four making it to the grand finale.

The victory represents a long-awaited breakthrough for the school, having reached the finals in the previous two editions but falling short on both occasions. This time, they displayed the composure and strategic thinking that have become hallmarks of their quiz team. The final was streamed live on Joy Prime and attracted teachers, parents, officials from the Ghana Education Service and representatives of headline sponsors Zincovit.

Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, the current NSMQ quiz mistress and Dean of Engineering at the University of Ghana, was among the distinguished guests at the event. The package awarded to the winners included a GH¢5,000 cash prize, ICT equipment, a library setup and brand-new laptops. Individual top performers also received GH¢500 each.

The school now joins a growing list of institutions from the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions making their mark in national academic competitions. With the new ICT and library resources, students and teachers alike say the win will open new doors for learning and preparation in future editions of the challenge.
