Auditor-General Calls for Stronger Collaboration to Boost Accountability

The Auditor-General, Dr Pamela Graham, has urged public institutions to collaborate more closely so that audit findings translate into tangible corrective actions. She said effective partnerships are essential for recovering public funds that have been misappropriated and for strengthening accountability across government.
Dr Graham highlighted that many audit recommendations remain unimplemented when institutions do not work together, allowing financial irregularities to persist. She warned that without coordinated effort, the nation’s development goals could be undermined by continued misuse of state resources.
The call comes at a time when citizens are increasingly demanding transparency and value for money in public spending. Stakeholders from the Ministries of Finance and Special Development Projects, as well as civil society groups, have echoed the need for a unified approach to tackle corruption and improve service delivery.
Dr Graham emphasized that sustained dialogue between auditors, regulators, and implementers will help close loopholes and ensure that audit reports lead to real change on the ground. She pledged to pursue reforms that make audit outcomes more enforceable.
If institutions adopt a more cooperative stance, the Auditor-General believes that Ghana can achieve greater financial discipline and restore public confidence in state institutions.
