Tullow Ghana bounded to pay $393m tax after losing arbitration case against Ghana Revenue Authority.

Tullow Ghana Limited has lost a high‑stakes arbitration case against the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The London‑based International Chamber of Commerce court in Paris threw out the company's challenge, leaving the firm liable for a $393 million tax assessment plus penalties.

The dispute centered on a hefty tax bill the GRA imposed last year, which Tullow had argued was unfair and overstated.

Calling the judgment a clear win for the state, Finance Minister Ken Ofori‑Atta said the ruling reinforces Ghana’s ability to tax multinational operators fairly.

While the company has not said it will walk away from its projects, the decision shows the state can stand firm when corporate challenges arise.

Tullow said the ruling will not affect its operations or future spending plans in Ghana.

The case adds a new chapter to Ghana’s growing reputation for rigorously chasing tax from global oil explorers.
