Tems Opens Up On Hiding Her Identity Before Global Fame

Grammy-winning singer Tems admits she once dreaded public attention and tried to keep her identity secret while making music.
The Grammy‑winning singer Tems has spoken candidly about how fear of the spotlight made her try to hide her own name from fans.
In a conversation on the Boost Podcast she said she used to feel uneasy whenever strangers called her Tems at the airport and she would deny it, hoping to keep a private life while still creating songs. Her reluctance stretched back to the early days of her career before she was thrust into the public eye.
Tems recalled quitting a stable digital marketing job in 2018 to chase music full‑time. That same year she dropped a debut single called “Mr Rebel” and later gained a major break when she was featured on Wizkid’s hit track “Essence” in 2020.
Although she initially resisted fame, the artist says she gradually learned to navigate it as the world’s attention grew.
