Tema Fire Commander urges private firms to back emergency services

ACFO II Patrick N. Sallah appeals to corporate Ghana for stronger fire service partnerships following Melcom Group’s major donation to Tema Regional Fire Command.
Government alone cannot fund the full expansion of fire service infrastructure in Tema’s critical industrial zone, says Assistant Chief Fire Officer II Patrick N. Sallah. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after Melcom Group handed over key welfare items, he stressed that private sector involvement is now essential to keep emergency response reliable and quick. The donation – 30 mattresses, 15 bunk beds, a television, fridge and air conditioner – marks the first major direct support from the retailer specifically for the Tema Regional Fire Command, though Melcom has backed other security bodies before.
Sallah highlighted that decent working conditions directly affect firefighter morale and effectiveness when tackling emergencies across the busy Tema enclave. He called on more companies operating in the metropolis to follow Melcom’s example and contribute to the Ghana National Fire Service’s public safety mission. The command serves a densely populated industrial corridor where rapid response saves lives and protects vital economic activity.
Francis Sam, Melcom’s Group General Manager, said the firm answered a formal request outlining the Command’s urgent needs without delay. He underlined that the impact of support matters more than the items themselves, noting the company’s long-standing view of the Fire Command as a valued partner. Community safety remains central to Melcom’s operations, and the Group has pledged ongoing assistance to sustain the fire service’s vital work in Tema and beyond.
