Survey Shows John Boadu Leads NPP Chairmanship Race with 46.5% Support

Kumasi-Tech Professor Smart Sarpong’s Political Environment Assessment Survey, done with Feedback Africa, sampled 9,882 Ghanaians across 156 constituencies. The study was carried out between 10 September and 28 September 2026, just before the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Conference scheduled for later this year.

John Boadu, who once served as General Secretary of the NPP, emerges as the frontrunner for the party chairmanship, drawing 46.5 percent support from all respondents and 47.9 percent among the 5,276 delegates. His closest rival, Boakye Agyarko, received 24.8 percent overall and under 26 percent when only delegates were considered. The remaining contenders – Paul Afoko and Sammy Crabbe – gathered far lower percentages, while a sizable share of respondents left their preference blank.

In the race for General Secretary, the incumbent Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK) enjoys a clear lead, attracting 56 percent of the total sample. Eugene Boakye Antwi trails with 14.4 percent. The survey also placed Nana B ahead of other hopefuls for the First Vice Chairmanship, though specific figures were not published beyond the mention of his candidacy.

Interpretations from party analysts suggest that the strong showings reflect a desire among rank‑and‑file members for continuity and respected leadership. Such preferences could give Boadu a significant advantage when delegates convene in Kumasi to elect new officers, potentially shaping the NPP’s direction in upcoming election cycles.
