Prof Prempeh Urges Release Of Draft Constitutional Reform Bills To Ghanaians

Professor Akoto Osei Prempeh, Executive Secretary of the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD)-Ghana, called for the immediate publication of all draft constitutional reform bills as promised by President Nana Akuffo‑Addo for broader public scrutiny. Speaking at a multi‑stakeholder dialogue on the Constitutional Reform Implementation Process in Accra, he emphasized that transparency on these drafts is essential for a truly inclusive national reform conversation.
The event, convened by the Citizens Platform on Constitutional Reform with technical support from the British High Commission, brought together civil society representatives, legal experts and policy analysts to review emerging proposals. Participants highlighted the need for all Ghanaians to engage with the draft texts before parliamentary consideration, arguing that the President’s earlier assurance must translate into concrete access to the documents.
CDD-Ghana believes that open publication will deepen public understanding and participation, key pillars of Ghana’s democratic stability. Professor Prempeh urged Parliament and relevant ministries to ensure the drafts are made available online and in public spaces without delay.
Stakeholders pledged to mobilize community groups to demand the release, signaling sustained civic pressure for meaningful constitutional engagement across the country.
