President Mahama entrusts Pelpuo with finding Resets that match Ghana’s development agenda
Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo says President John Mahama tasked him with identifying initiatives that can help Ghana’s recovery and growth.
Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has assigned Dr Abdul‑Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister of State for Special Initiatives, the duty of locating policies that will support the nation’s reset agenda. In a recent interview on JoyNews’ programme The Pulse with Elton Brobbey, Dr Pelpuo explained that his responsibility is to examine the many programmes being introduced across the country and select those that can be integrated with the government’s plan to reset the economy and improve public services. He said the chosen initiatives must create tangible benefits for ordinary Ghanaians and align perfectly with the reset agenda’s objectives.
Dr Pelpuo, who previously served as Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, was recently reassigned to the Special Initiatives portfolio in a reshuffle announced on August 26, 2026. The reshuffle saw Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum taking over the labour ministry. In his current role, Pelpuo will scour proposals from different sectors, assess their potential impact, and recommend those that can be fast‑tracked for implementation. He emphasized that his task is not to create new policies but to identify existing ones that can be adapted to meet Ghana’s current development challenges.
The minister’s focus is on finding initiatives that can address pressing issues such as job creation, infrastructure, and economic stability. He said the selected programmes will be evaluated based on how well they can add value, fit into the government’s broader policy framework, and deliver results that matter to citizens. By aligning these initiatives with the reset agenda, the government hopes to accelerate recovery and ensure that public resources are used efficiently.
Dr Pelpuo is expected to present his findings to President Mahama and other senior officials in the coming weeks. The review process will involve stakeholder consultations and a thorough assessment of each initiative’s feasibility. If promising proposals are identified, the government may move quickly to roll them out, aiming to deliver quicker relief and long‑term benefits to Ghanaians across the country.
