Parliament has threatened to quiz the Ghana FA over the Black Stars' disastrous AFCON qualifying start

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will soon face parliamentary scrutiny after the Black Stars' disastrous start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ghana have picked up zero points from their opening two Group C matches, losing 2-0 to Côte d'ivoire and surrendering a 2-goal lead to lose 4-2 at home to The Gambia. The defeats have sparked sharp criticism of both the team's performances and the GFA's handling of national football.

Parliament's Select Committee on Youth and Sports, chaired by Ashaiman MP Ernest Norgbey, confirmed it will summon the GFA to answer questions about the state of Ghana football. Norgbey stressed the committee will investigate the wider decline in sporting fortunes, not just focusing on the Black Stars' poor run.

The result has heaped intense pressure on coach Carlos Queiroz and the GFA's management of the Black Stars. With only two group matches remaining, Ghana must win both fixtures against Somalia in October to keep their AFCON qualification hopes alive after missing out on the 2025 tournament in Morocco.

The Black Stars' qualification campaign has now hit a critical juncture, with the upcoming matches against Somalia offering a potential lifeline for the team to revive its fading hopes after more than two decades of consecutive AFCON appearances.
