Over 2,000 Teachers in Dormaa District Stay Home as Strike Continues
GNAT confirms none of the approximately 2,000 teachers in 25 basic schools in Dormaa have shown up despite earlier ultimatum.
The Dormaa District Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, Justice Acquah, has confirmed that none of the about 2,000 teachers across 25 basic schools in the Dormaa Municipality have reported to work. This follows the strike action taken by teachers demanding better conditions of service and greater recognition of their welfare concerns.
The industrial action was triggered after heightened tensions between local teacher unions and school administrators over unresolved grievances, including delays in salary payments and inadequate teaching resources. Justice Acquah stated that the teachers remain resolute in their demand for immediate intervention from the government to address their concerns before returning to the classrooms.
Dormaa, located in the Bono Region, has historically faced challenges in fulfilling educational infrastructure and staffing commitments, making this development particularly significant for the district's education outcomes.
