NEIP CEO announces conversion into a dedicated Ghana Startup Agency with legislative support and increased funding to boost entrepreneurship.

The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme will convert into the Ghana Startup Agency as part of a government initiative to strengthen the country's innovation ecosystem, CEO Eric Adjei confirmed on October 1, 2026. This change transforms NEIP from a special-purpose vehicle into an independent agency with dedicated funding and legislative backing to support startups. The move aims to strengthen the national startup pipeline, improve coordination among ecosystem players, and enhance investment readiness for emerging businesses. Adjei emphasized that the transition represents more than a name change—it reflects a commitment to redefining how Ghana nurtures innovative ventures and scales homegrown businesses.

The CEO highlighted that the Adwumawura Programme has already supported 10,887 young entrepreneurs through targeted interventions. Of these, 3,625 received grants following a transparent, competitive selection process overseen by an independent committee. These efforts form part of a broader strategy to expand access to mentorship, market opportunities, and technical support for Ghanaian innovators.

While the announcement took place at an international conference in South Africa, the structural changes will unfold directly in Ghana, positioning the new agency to better coordinate funding, policy, and support mechanisms. Adjei noted that enhancing collaboration between startups, investors, and research institutions remains a priority to ensure sustainable growth across the ecosystem.
