NDC communicator Wonder Madilo explains how expanding Ghanaian ports and airport infrastructure contributes to drug trafficking exposure, emphasizing the scale of legitimate trade.

NDC communicator Wonder Madilo told TV3's New Day that Ghana's rising trade volumes and cargo movement are shaping the nation's exposure to international drug trafficking.

He argued that the scale of legitimate trade now determines how drugs can be concealed within shipments, countering narratives that portray Ghana as merely an easy route for cocaine. Madilo highlighted the expansion of key infrastructure, including the Tema Port, Takoradi Port and the upgraded Terminal 3 at Kotoka International Airport.

The comments came during ongoing congestion reported at Tema Port, where authorities attributes delays partly to surging import traffic and growing numbers of empty containers needing clearance.

Madilo stressed that discussions about drug trafficking must consider the volume of legitimate commerce rather than focusing exclusively on vulnerabilities within transit systems

The debate underscores how Ghana's trade growth and infrastructure upgrades position the country as a central node in regional logistics, while simultaneously requiring heightened vigilance around cargo security
