Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, NPP 2024 running mate, told delegates in Kumasi the party’s electoral decisions must rest with the masses, not individual influence.

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, addressed the NPP National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, 3 October, affirming that the party’s national executive elections must be decided solely by delegates. He stressed that the democratic process within the NPP must be respected and that no personal agenda would shape the outcome. "The wisdom of the masses will prevail," he said, emphasizing that every vote cast would determine the party’s future leadership and strengthen its preparation for upcoming elections. Delegates from across Ghana had gathered to participate in what he described as a critical democratic exercise shaping the NPP’s direction. He also commented on the party’s prospects for the 2028 general election, noting Ghana’s elections have always been competitive but ultimately decided by the people. NAPO voiced full support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s political ambitions, stating sincerely that Bawumia would be elected to give Ghana hope from 2029 onward. He commended party supporters, delegates and candidates for their constructive engagement throughout the conference, describing their conduct as encouraging. The event, held at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, drew thousands of party faithful who observed a orderly voting process for national executive positions. NAPO reaffirmed his commitment to disciplined political discourse, urging all stakeholders to avoid insults and personal attacks during internal contests. He called on Parliament to reconsider the Anti-LGBTQ Bill amid public debate, arguing it requires broader national consensus. The NPP national elections concluded peacefully with new executives elected to steer the party toward 2028. NAPO concluded by affirming that the party’s unity and democratic credibility depend on honoring the delegates’ mandate.
