NAFCO is boosting its cash cushion even after reporting a profit of Ghc91.7 million for 2025, aiming to safeguard its buffer stock operations.

The National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), a state-supported grain reserve manager, is taking steps to reinforce its liquidity position despite posting a profit before tax of Ghc91.7 Million for the year ending 2025. The move seeks to shore up the institution’s financial resilience in the face of shifting market conditions and to ensure it can continue to stabilize food availability for Ghanaians when supply gaps emerge.

NAFCO plays a pivotal role in Ghana’s food security architecture, having been established to buffer against price spikes and to manage the procurement and distribution of strategic staples. Its mandate aligns with the broader state effort to lessen the impact of global commodity swings on local markets, particularly for cereals that form the backbone of many households’ diets.

The organization’s operating model combines commercial trading with public service responsibilities. By maintaining a robust cash base, NAFCO intends to keep sufficient funds available for timely purchases during periods of scarcity, as well as to meet its logistical and storage obligations across its network of warehouses nationwide.
