The Ministry of Sports and GFA have agreed to form a five-member committee to find a new coach for the Black Stars.

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have agreed on a plan to appoint a permanent coach for the Black Stars who must live in Ghana and monitor the domestic league.

A five-person Technical Search Committee has been formed to identify and recommend a suitable coach for the senior men’s team.

The committee will submit its findings by Friday, 9 October 2026, according to a press statement released after a high-level meeting between the Ministry’s Executive Council and the GFA.

The meeting was attended by sector minister Kofi Iddie Adams, the MP for Buem Constituency.

During the session, participants discussed wide-ranging measures to improve performance across Ghana’s national football teams.

A new technical head will be assigned to oversee the U15, U17 and U20 development pathways, with each age group receiving a dedicated technical staff, proper competition schedules and clear player progression routes.

Management structures for all national teams will be streamlined, reducing each committee from five to three members.

A Public Interest Committee will be created by the GFA in partnership with the Ministry to monitor the implementation of these reforms.

The urgency of the reforms stems from the Black Stars’ recent 2-4 loss to The Gambia and the subsequent exit of Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to addressing public concerns throughout the revival process.

An eight-member search panel has been formed to locate a replacement for the departed coach.

Asante Kotoko defeated Karela United in their first match following the departure of their former coach.

Professor Emmanuel Sarpong has been named acting Director-General of the National Sports Authority.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah was suspended as NSA Director-General pending investigations into alleged visa irregularities.

Carlos Queiroz called for unity, stating “Ghana comes first” after concluding his role with the Black Stars.
