NDC communicator Wonder Madilo criticized President Akufo-Addo’s recent admission of drug trafficking complexity only six months before leaving office, urging focus on national security action.

A New Day interview on TV3 saw NDC communications team member Wonder Madilo dismiss the president’s recent remarks on drug trafficking complexity as belated and politically motivated. Six months before his term ends, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged during the 2024 International Day Against Drug Abuse that the trade had become "intensive, extensive and complex," stating Ghana was not spared and pledging resources for NACOC and security agencies. Madilo questioned why the issue resurfaced now after years of occurrence, noting the recent 3.9-tonne cocaine seizure at Tema Port led to six charged individuals denied bail at the Kwabenya Circuit Court on September 29, 2026.

He argued the cocaine trade demands national security urgency, not partisan framing between NDC and NPP. Madilo stressed that cocaine trafficking represents a serious threat requiring institutional strengthening rather than political debate. The NDC communicators’ stance underscores a broader criticism that high-level acknowledgment arrived without accompanying decisive action during the administration’s eight-year tenure.

No scheduled public events involving President Akufo-Addo or related authorities were specified in the report beyond the 2024 awareness event, with no confirmed calendar date provided for future programmes tied to this issue.
