John Boadu vows to rebuild NPP from grassroots and restore winning machinery

New NPP Chairman pledges unity, youth engagement and organisational renewal ahead of 2028 election
John Boadu was elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, securing 2,888 votes to defeat Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, who received 2,408 votes. In his acceptance speech, Boadu declared the victory a responsibility rather than personal triumph, urging unity within the party. He rejected the notion of winners and losers, stating that only one NPP must exist, united around a single purpose. Boadu emphasized the need for the party to learn, adapt, and become more responsive to Ghanaians’ changing expectations, calling for deeper engagement with youth, TESCON, voluntary groups, social media practitioners, and traditional media. He pledged to centre young people in his agenda, ensuring they feel the NPP is their home, and proposed using tertiary institutions as hubs for political dialogue and leadership development. The new executive team will collaborate with Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to strengthen constituency-level organisational and financial structures, particularly ahead of the 2028 general election. Boadu cautioned that electoral success must be earned through service, organisation, credibility, and public trust, not taken for granted. He urged members to prioritise collective interest over individual ambition, advocating for unity, service, organisation, and hope over division, personal ambition, disorder, and despair. The election marks Boadu’s return to NPP national leadership after losing the 2022 General Secretary race to Justin Kodua, who retained the position. Amb. Edward Boateng and other party figures congratulated the new leadership, stressing the need to rebuild and unite the NPP for the 2028 contest. Boadu’s challenge lies in translating his grassroots mobilisation and organisational renewal pledges into actionable strategy over the next four years.
