GTEC has named more than 100 tertiary institutions operating without official recognition, urging caution for prospective students.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has identified over 100 tertiary institutions that are currently operating without formal recognition as of September 2026. The Commission cited a range of quality assurance concerns, including gaps in curriculum compliance and inadequate infrastructure, when placing these schools on its unrecognised list.

GTEC warned parents, students, and the wider public to exercise caution before enrolling at any institution not listed as officially recognised. It stressed that degrees and certificates awarded by unrecognised bodies remain subject to scrutiny and may not be accepted for employment or further study.

The Commission called on all prospective learners to verify the accreditation status of any college or university they consider. It also urged employers and other institutions to check the legitimacy of qualifications before accepting them for professional purposes.

Verification of institutional status has become increasingly important as the number of unrecognised providers continues to grow across the country.
