GRA Seizes US Ammunition Consignment at Accra Port
GRA intercepts 610 live rounds hidden in a US-bound cargo shipment at Golden Jubilee Terminal, Accra.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has intercepted a dangerous cache of 610 live rounds of ammunition concealed within personal effects arriving from the United States. The discovery occurred at the Golden Jubilee Terminal in Accra, where customs officers grew suspicious during routine inspection of a consignment declared as household items.
Preliminary investigations indicate the ammunition was smuggled under the guise of non-sensitive cargo, triggering immediate protocols by the GRA and the Ghana Armed Forces. No arrests have been made yet, but security agencies are tracing the shipment's origin and intended destination to prevent potential misuse.
This incident highlights escalating concerns about illicit arms trafficking through Ghana's ports, a route increasingly exploited by criminal networks despite existing customs safeguards. The GRA emphasized that such seizures are critical to national security, though investigations remain ongoing.
The consignment is currently under military custody at the Takoradi Naval Base as forensic teams verify the ammunition type and specifications. Authorities have urged heightened vigilance across all border points to curb similar attempts exploiting Ghana’s trade corridors.
