GRA probes alleged GH¢600 extortion by Customs officer at Kotoka Airport

GRA launches investigation after TikToker claims Customs officer took GH¢600 without receipt at Kotoka Airport
The Ghana Revenue Authority has opened an investigation into claims that a Customs officer at Kotoka International Airport collected GH¢600 from a TikToker without issuing a receipt. Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty shared a video on TikTok alleging the officer demanded the money during a routine check. The GRA confirmed it had taken note of the allegation and began a formal inquiry to verify the incident. A statement from the Authority said it would publish its findings once the investigation concludes. The GRA reiterated its dedication to integrity, accountability and professional standards in public service. The officer's identity remains undisclosed and no official details about the circumstances have been released. The inquiry will determine whether any procedural breach occurred and what action follows. This is not the first time airport extortion has drawn public concern. Earlier, the Ghana Airports Company Limited introduced new measures to curb illegal charges at airports. It also barred two Port Health officers over similar allegations at Accra Airport. The GRA’s probe adds to growing scrutiny of frontline revenue staff conduct. The outcome will guide next steps in addressing the claim.
