GoldBod records $1.87bn in September FX earnings

GoldBod announced $1.87bn earned from gold trade in September 2026, surpassing its target.
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) says it generated $1.87bn from its artisanal and small-scale mining activities in September 2026, exceeding the amount it set out to achieve that month. This haul came solely from the trade of gold produced by miners working outside the large corporate mines.
For many Ghanaians in mining communities, this figure is more than just a number on a balance sheet. It reflects the income of thousands of families who rely on small‑scale gold to put food on the table and pay school fees.
The achievement also underscores the role of artisanal mining in Ghana’s foreign‑exchange earnings, a sector that has historically struggled with illegal mining concerns, minimal support, and volatile markets. Government officials have previously emphasized the need to formalise the sector to boost revenue and improve livelihoods.
Looking ahead, GoldBod says it will keep monitoring the market and hopes its success will encourage more sustainable practices among small‑scale miners. Stakeholders expect the positive trend to influence future policy discussions on how to harness artisanal mining for national development.
