The Ghana Child Labour Monitoring System uses SMS and apps to track children's work and school attendance across the country

Ghana has launched the Ghana Child Labour Monitoring System to track children's work and school attendance nationwide using simple mobile technology. The system sends SMS alerts to households and District Coordinating Offices when a child is seen working or drops out of school.

This digital tool replaces older paper-based checks that were slow and easy to miss. Around 760,000 children have already been registered across Ghana since the pilot began.

The Child Labour Monitoring System was tested in districts where cocoa and mining are common. Now it will roll out across all 16 regions. When a child is logged, officials can flag it quickly and send help.

Child labour remains a challenge in Ghana's informal economy. The system is part of Ghana's push to meet international rules. It pulls data from surveys organised by the government as part of key projects to eliminate child work on farms and streets.
