Ghana High Commission Caution Ghanaians in South Africa Ahead of Planned Protests

Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Pretoria has issued a strong caution to all Ghanaians residing or travelling in South Africa ahead of planned demonstrations scheduled for Wednesday September 30 2026.

These protests are connected to the March and March movement and other organisations opposed to undocumented immigration. The High Commission has specifically warned that the gatherings may take place in central business districts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces, potentially disrupting transport and public services.

Ghanaians are advised to steer clear of protest sites, avoid unnecessary travel in major cities, and keep essential documents such as passports and visas within easy reach. They have also been reminded to keep mobile devices charged, stay in touch with family and community leaders, and maintain supplies of food and medication for vulnerable groups.

The mission further urged citizens to cooperate with South African Police Service and other authorised security personnel, and to rely only on official news outlets for updates. Failure to heed these warnings could expose individuals to heightened security risks.
