Effia MP Calls for GFA Dissolution After Black Stars AFCON Setback
Effia MP Isaac Boamah-Nyarko demands the entire Ghana Football Association be dissolved after the Black Stars lose 4-2 to Gambia in AFCON 2027 qualifiers, citing the need for a complete reset of Ghana football.
Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has publicly demanded that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) be dissolved following the Black Stars' 4-2 defeat to Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The humiliating loss on Tuesday, 29 September, came after an earlier 2-0 loss to Côte d'Ivoire, leaving Ghana at the bottom of Group C with no points earned yet.
The MP argues that past successes cannot shield the current administration from accountability, insisting that the nation's football infrastructure must be completely dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up. Boamah-Nyarko emphasized that the minister of Youth and Sports should also step down, calling for a fresh start that resets football development at the district, regional, and local league levels.
The defeat has triggered widespread anger across Ghana, particularly because the Black Stars surrendered an early lead and only managed to equalise briefly before Gambia surged ahead. The early collapse has intensified calls for urgent reform in the country's football development pipeline.
President of the GFA, Kurt Okraku, and the national team's technical staff have yet to respond publicly to the MP's demands, but the fallout is expected to spur emergency meetings within the football federation in the coming weeks.
