National Petroleum Authority CEO Godwin Edudzi Tameklo urges Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah to work with EOCO and clear his name

National Petroleum Authority CEO Godwin Edudzi Tameklo has told Manhyia South MP Baffour Awuah to cooperate with EOCO to clear his name.

Edudzi made the call on the Key Points programme on TV3 Saturday October 3. He said it was in Baffour Awuah's interest to cooperate with the anti-graft office.

The MP will appear before court today Saturday October 3. Edudzi expressed confidence that the court would grant bail.

He recalled that the earlier invitation in February would have prevented the current situation. Edudzi stressed that EOCO has not breached any law in handling the case.

The CEO cited Article 14 of the Constitution which requires a person under investigation to appear in court within 48 hours.

Lawyer Martin Kpebu criticised EOCO's handling of the case. He argued that keeping Baffour Awuah in custody does not help EOCO's case.

Kpebu stated that Baffour Awuah became aware of the matter in February but did not abscond. He questioned why the suspect was held for four hours without questioning.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office confirmed that Baffour Awuah will appear before a weekend court.

EOCO said it is working with the Attorney-General's office to meet constitutional timelines.

The office dismissed claims that it granted a GH₵50 million bail to the MP.

Baffour Awuah surrendered to EOCO on October 1 and has remained in custody.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin visited the MP on October 2.

Afenyo-Markin likened the NDC government's actions to a police officer stopping a driver over minor vehicle issues.

He accused the government of political witch-hunting and persecuting opposition members.

The Minority Leader said Baffour Awuah remains in high spirits despite his detention.

Afenyo-Markin urged NPP members to stay united and focused on the party's future.

He challenged the NDC to name a legacy project by President Mahama by 2028.
