Senior KNUST lecturer warns that silent endorsement of political insults fuels toxicity and undermines national values.

Insults in public discourse are becoming a worrying trend among Ghanaian political actors, according to Dr. Kwasi Amakye-Boateng, a senior political science lecturer at KNUST. Speaking on Angel FM, he stated that political leaders who stay silent while their supporters hurl abuse are effectively endorsing the practice.

The lecturer emphasized that disagreement does not require derision, noting that Ghanaian culture traditionally reserves respect for elders and those holding public office. He argued that modern leaders must set a higher standard than mere party rivalry.

Dr Amakye-Boateng also referenced the biblical story of Miriam and Aaron challenging Moses, using it to illustrate the dangers of speaking against authority without restraint. He cautioned that the growing acceptance of vitriol could shape how the next generation views civic engagement.

The scholar warned that unchecked insults risk embedding toxic rhetoric into the national political climate, making it harder to restore civil discourse in future elections.

No public event tied to his remarks was announced, and the input provided no specific calendar date or location.
