Deputy AG confirms EOCO warrant for Manhyia South MP’s arrest over financial probe

Dr Justice Srem-Sai has confirmed that EOCO obtained a High Court warrant to arrest Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah in a financial loss investigation linked to SIC Life Savings & Loans
Dr Justice Srem‑Sai, Deputy Attorney‑General and Minister for Justice, announced that the Economic and Organised Crime Office has secured a High Court warrant for the arrest of Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. The warrant follows the MP’s refusal to honour an EOCO invitation issued in February 2026 over alleged unauthorised dealings at SIC Life Savings & Loans. EOCO says it has exhausted all reasonable steps to obtain the MP’s voluntary appearance, making the court‑backed arrest warrant the next legal move.
The case centres on suspected financial irregularities, including causing financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering tied to transactions at the savings and loans company. According to the Deputy AG, the MP has not cooperated with investigators since the initial invitation, prompting EOCO to pursue formal arrest proceedings. Earlier this month, officers attempted to take the MP into custody at the Accra High Court, leading to a confrontation that sparked public debate about the agency’s enforcement tactics.
With the warrant now in force, EOCO is expected to intensify its efforts to bring the legislator in for questioning and possible prosecution. The development marks a significant escalation in the agency’s investigation and will likely influence both political and public discourse on accountability in Ghana’s public offices.
