CSA Urges Ghanaians to Verify Money Requests to Combat AI-Powered Fraud

Ghanaians must verify all unexpected money requests online as AI makes fraud harder to detect, says Cyber Security Authority Director-General
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has raised alarms over a surge in sophisticated online fraud targeting Ghanaians, driven by artificial intelligence. Director-General Dr Divine Agbeti warned that fraudsters now use AI to craft convincing voice messages, images and texts that mimic trusted contacts, making scams nearly impossible to distinguish from real communications. During the launch of National Cyber Security Awareness Month 2026 themed "Securing Ghana’s Digital Finance Ecosystem", Dr Agbeti stressed that personal vigilance is now non-negotiable. He urged citizens to pause before clicking, verify all financial requests and protect passwords regardless of how authentic a message appears. "Seeing is no longer believing online," he stated, emphasizing that verification must become a daily habit. Ghana’s digital finance progress demands equal investment in security, he added, calling it a shared duty involving government, banks, telcos and the public. No single entity can tackle these threats alone, requiring collective action to safeguard the nation’s digital economy.
