Former Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has departed the Ghana Football Association by mutual agreement following two defeats in AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

The Ghana Football Association and former head coach Carlos Queiroz have mutually terminated his contract after two heavy defeats in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The loss to Côte d'Ivoire in Bouaké and a 4-2 home defeat by Gambia at Accra Sports Stadium sealed his exit.

Queiroz served as national team coach for roughly four months across two short stints in 2026. His departure comes ahead of Ghana's remaining four qualifying matches, prompting the GFA to hunt for a new coach to restore stability.

He capped his brief tenure with a World Cup appearance, reflecting on his service to Ghana’s proud football heritage with gratitude and respect.

The GFA confirmed the termination following an emergency meeting convened after the Gambia loss, marking a swift end to a tenure that delivered limited on-field progress despite initial optimism.

His departure leaves the national team without a permanent coach as they prepare for crucial qualifiers ahead of the continental tournament.
