Call for President Mahama to dissolve GFA and revive Ghana football

A public appeal has been made to President John Dramani Mahama to disband the Ghana Football Association and reset the nation’s football fortunes.

Emmanuel Osei, a football advocate and son of the celebrated Rev. Osei Kofi, argues that the current administration of the GFA has failed to deliver results for years, leaving the Black Stars in a period of sustained decline. He cites a series of early exits from AFCON and World Cup qualifying campaigns, including group-stage eliminations in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and a failed qualification for the 2026 tournament. According to Emmanuel, Ghana has gone eight qualifying matches without a win and lost recent home fixtures against Niger and The Gambia.

The letter stresses that the problem is not witch‑hunting but the need for decisive leadership to stop the sport’s slide. It references President Mahama’s own stance on rejecting insulting external proposals, drawing a parallel to the need for dignified, locally‑driven solutions for football governance. Emmanuel urges the President to consider dissolving the GFA as a bold reset.
