AC4NCA Organises Community Beach Clean-Up in Chorkor to Combat Coastal Pollution

Residents of Chorkor joined AC4NCA's beach clean-up on Saturday morning to clear debris and plastic waste from the shore.
Community volunteers awoke Saturday morning to join hands in cleaning Chorkor Beach as part of the Africa Centre for Nature-Based Climate Action's (AC4NCA) persistent fight against marine pollution. Armed with gloves and sacks, participants removed plastic bottles, bags, and other debris strewn along the coastline. This exercise forms part of AC4NCA's broader strategy that prioritises storytelling and direct community engagement to foster sustainable coastal management practices. The initiative directly tackles the growing problem of plastic waste threatening Ghana's shorelines and marine ecosystems.
Earlier this year, AC4NCA launched its Nature-Based Climate Action Project specifically targeting coastal pollution through innovative narrative-driven approaches. Local fisherfolk and residents in Chorkor have repeatedly raised concerns about waste accumulation undermining livelihoods and environmental health. The organisation continues to mobilise citizens through practical actions that integrate cultural storytelling to deepen environmental stewardship.
Participants described the exercise as both impactful and necessary given the persistent pollution challenges. Waste management remains a critical issue along Accra's coastlines, with plastic waste frequently piling up after heavy rains and high tides. AC4NCA's approach seeks to empower communities from within rather than imposing external solutions. This clean-up exercise represents another step in their sustained commitment to environmental restoration and community-led resilience.
