Aayalolo Contra-Flow Buses Not Speeding – GAPTE Assures Public
GAPTE says Aayalolo buses on new contra-flow lanes are driven safely, with trained drivers and escorts, to protect commuters and road users.
The Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive has confirmed that Aayalolo buses using the newly introduced contra-flow lanes are not speeding, despite early public concerns. Managing Director Awudu Dawud explained that drivers have undergone special training and that safety was a top priority when the system began operations.
The assurance follows reports that many commuters are experiencing shorter travel times but remain nervous about buses moving against normal traffic flow. To address these fears, the agency has coordinated with multiple government bodies, including the Motor Traffic and Transport Department and the National Road Safety Authority, to monitor and enforce safe driving practices.
Motorcades now escort the buses through the contra-flow lanes to signal their presence and prevent other vehicles from entering these reserved routes. This temporary measure aims to maintain order and protect all road users while the system stabilises.
GAPTE emphasises that every step has been taken to ensure that the introduction of contra-flow lanes enhances safety, not undermines it.
