An 82-year-old woman in Agona Kwesi-twikwaa, Agona East District, died from shock after suspected land guards destroyed more than 200 acres of farmland.
The incident occurred when armed individuals allegedly used heavy machinery to grade portions of farmland cultivated by local farmers. The land was reportedly being cleared for sand-winning and sale to private developers.
Affected farmers say crops including cocoa, palm, coconut, yam, and cassava were lost, causing major financial setbacks. They also claim intimidation by the land guards, who are gradually taking over their properties.
Albert Quainoo, former Assemblyman for Fawomanye Electoral Area, confirmed the woman’s death was caused by shock from the destruction. He said around 800 farmers have been affected.
Quainoo has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, the Minister for the Interior, and other authorities to intervene immediately. He demands an end to the alleged activities and compensation for the farmers.
Residents say the destruction has caused deep emotional and economic pain. They are urging security agencies to restore order and protect their farmlands.
No official response from the government has been reported yet. The situation remains tense as farmers wait for action.
