Three Suspected Kidnappers Arrested After Victim Escapes Yendi Captivity

Three men arrested near Yendi for kidnapping man who later escaped into the forest and was rescued by farmers.
Ghana Police have arrested three suspects linked to the kidnapping of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, known as Haruna, in Yendi. Armed men seized Haruna and his brother from their home near Dobini Bunban on September 25, 2026, and held him for five days. Relatives reported that the kidnappers demanded GHC100,000 for his release. Instead of paying, Haruna managed to break free from his captors and fled into the surrounding bush near Sambu. Local farmers spotted the traumatised man, carried him to a nearby clinic and called emergency help. Police officers arrived, took his statement and later matched him with photographs of three arrested men. The suspects, Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were caught in separate raids across the Mion District on September 29, 2026. Investigators say the trio may be tied to other robbery cases in the area. They remain behind bars as detectives chase further suspects and work to piece together the full sequence of events. Haruna’s escape has sparked renewed talk of community vigilance and stronger police checks in northern towns.
