Ashanti Police close key routes and divide parking zones ahead of the NPP National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has fixed Saturday October 3 2026 as the day all traffic to Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi will slow to a stop. The move is meant to protect delegates and supporters gathering for the New Patriotic Party National Delegates Conference and elections.

Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo who leads the Police Public Affairs Unit said in Kumasi that motorists must plan their journeys ahead of time. He urged everyone to obey police officers deployed to the area and to carry their accreditation if they intend to enter restricted zones.

Roads leading directly to the stadium will be closed to all vehicles. These include the stretch from Bridginia Traffic Lights to Carvery Methodist Church and from Unity Oil Fuel Station to T I Ahmadiyya Senior High School. The route from Is My Kitchen Restaurant back to Bridginia Traffic Lights is also sealed off.

To keep traffic moving the Police have set up diversions. Commercial vehicles coming from Amakom will drive straight to Asokwa. Cars that normally come from Asafo will be redirected at Bridginia Traffic Lights toward either Asokwa or Amakom Traffic Lights. Vehicles on the LLL route heading for T I Ahmadiyya Senior High School will proceed straight to Amakom Traffic Lights. Traffic from Kumasi City Mall toward Afful Nkwanta Junction will be rerouted through Bulldog Restaurant. Cars coming from Afful Nkwanta will instead drive straight toward Kumasi City Mall.

Parking has also been tightly organised. The VVIP section is set aside for former Presidents and the NPP Presidential Candidate. Members of Parliament former MPs MMDCEs and CEOs will use the Scoreboard Parking Area. Delegates arriving by bus and National Party Executives must park at Heroes Park. Police vehicles will be stationed at the Hockey Pitch.

All delegates and vehicles must be properly accredited. Only those with official passes will be allowed into these zones. Motorists are required to show their accreditation clearly and follow every instruction from deployed officers.

The Police warned against parking in unauthorised areas or trying to drive through roadblocks. Units from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department will be posted at key points to manage traffic flow. Towing trucks will also be on standby to remove vehicles parked in the wrong place and take them to the KMA yard at the owner’s cost.

The Command asked motorists delegates and the general public to plan their movements carefully. They should use alternate routes avoid the stadium environment and respect the temporary arrangements.

Any unauthorised access parking or obstruction of designated paths will be dealt with firmly. Officers said they regret the inconvenience caused but appealed for cooperation so the conference can be held safely and smoothly.
