Criss Waddle blames GFA leadership for Black Stars' 4-2 loss to Gambia, urging removal of GFA President Kurt Okraku. He cites repeated coaching changes and calls for accountability.

Musician Criss Waddle has called for the removal of Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku following the Black Stars' 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in an AFCON 2027 qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

The loss marked the Black Stars' second straight opening match defeat in Group C after an earlier 2-0 loss to Côte d'Ivoire. Ghana had led 2-0 at halftime through a 27th-minute penalty by Ernest Nuamah and a six-minute strike by Felix Afena-Gyan, but Gambia mounted a comeback with Muhammed Badamosi converting a penalty before halftime and Omar Colley equalising, only to score twice in the second half.

Waddle argues that frequent coaching changes by the GFA over recent years have not improved the national team's performance, and that accountability must extend to the football association's leadership. In a post on X the following day, he questioned why coaches continue to bear the blame in 2026 when the structure itself appears broken. He wrote that GFA had dismissed over ten head coaches in past years without altering the team's trajectory, adding that the GFA president himself should be removed.

The criticism emerges amid growing scrutiny of Ghana's football administration following a poor start to the AFCON qualifying campaign. The Black Stars now face mounting pressure to regroup ahead of their next fixtures as they seek to salvage their qualification hopes.

The GFA has not yet responded publicly to the call for Okraku's removal.
