Mavis Hawa Koomson won the NPP Women’s Organiser election with 783 votes, defeating Hajia Safia Mohammed who conceded. She pledged experienced, mature leadership for the party’s women’s wing.

Mavis Hawa Koomson has been elected National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), securing 783 votes in the party’s national election. Her only opponent, Hajia Safia Mohammed, polled 429 votes and formally conceded defeat, congratulating Koomson on her victory. Speaking immediately after the results were announced, Koomson expressed deep gratitude to her supporters, the party’s election committee, and other key NPP figures whose contributions made the electoral process successful. She thanked every individual who stood by her campaign, stating their efforts had directly led to this outcome.

When questioned about her vision for the role, Koomson emphasized that she would lead the women’s wing with experience and maturity. She described herself as a woman equipped with the practical knowledge and steady judgment necessary to advance the party’s agenda for women across Ghana. Her election marks a significant moment for the NPP’s gender representation strategy, coming as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

The contest was tightly watched within party circles, with Koomson’s decisive margin reflecting strong support among delegates. Hajia Safia Mohammed’s concession was seen as a gesture of unity, reinforcing the NPP’s internal cohesion ahead of national mobilisation. Koomson’s pledge to bring maturity to the position signals a shift in approach for the women’s wing, aiming to strengthen grassroots engagement and policy advocacy.

The election took place amid broader party activities focused on rebuilding structures and preparing for future electoral cycles. Koomson’s victory is expected to influence the NPP’s outreach efforts, particularly in mobilising women voters ahead of the 2028 campaign. Party officials have already begun discussions on how her leadership will shape upcoming initiatives.

No further electoral challenges have been reported, and Koomson is set to assume office immediately following the conclusion of the electoral process. Her leadership will be tested as the party translates this mandate into concrete programmes for women’s empowerment and participation in governance.
