Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah says he self-reported to EOCO after Deputy Attorney General announced an arrest warrant on social media, insisting he never received prior invitations.

Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah confirmed he presented himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following a public announcement by Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem-Sai on social media that an arrest warrant had been secured against him.

The MP stated he was surprised by the public declaration, saying he had never received any formal invitation or notice from EOCO regarding the investigation.

Baffour Awuah explained that as a sitting MP, he expected any legal process to be coordinated through Parliament’s Speaker, not handled directly by prosecutors.

He said the public nature of the Deputy Attorney General’s post compelled him to change course and report himself to avoid further complications.

With his lawyers and colleagues present, he submitted to EOCO for questioning concerning alleged unauthorised financial transactions linked to SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.

The MP maintained that the public warrant announcement altered his approach to the matter entirely.

EOCO had previously obtained a High Court warrant to search both his parliamentary office and private residence as part of the ongoing probe.

He has since challenged aspects of EOCO’s account, citing correspondence that related to his earlier role as Senior Partner at a law firm representing SIC Life Savings.

The MP’s self-reporting follows an attempted arrest at Accra High Court on September 23, which he described as unlawful and improperly executed.

Public figures including Atta Akyea, Annoh-Dompreh and John Boadu have voiced strong opinions on the case, with some calling for scrutiny of EOCO’s procedures.

OccupyGhana has called for parliamentary review of ECOO’s powers and the treatment of sitting MPs under investigation.

The MP remains cooperative with investigators and has indicated willingness to face due process accordingly.
