Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah turned himself in to EOCO today, October 1, 2026, and was arrested in an ongoing financial crime probe.

Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah voluntarily presented himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at its headquarters around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026. He was immediately arrested following a High Court warrant issued the previous day, September 30, 2026, which authorized his detention in connection with investigations into alleged financial crimes. The warrant came after EOCO informed the court it had been unable to secure his voluntary appearance despite months of efforts. Earlier, the MP had stated he would honour any formal invitation from EOCO and maintained he had not ignored prior summons. His decision to turn himself in followed growing pressure on him over allegations including criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, and tax-related offences. EOCO confirmed that after his arrival, it initiated investigative procedures before placing him under arrest. The Office emphasized that the MP is cooperating fully with investigators as the process continues. EOCO spokesperson stated that the arrest marked the start of formal questioning and that all constitutional and legal rights of the MP would be respected throughout. The investigation remains focused on activities linked to SIC Savings and Loans, where the alleged financial losses and money laundering activities are believed to have occurred. EOCO has reiterated its commitment to conducting the probe professionally, independently, and in line with due process. The agency has called on the public to refrain from interfering and to allow the judicial process to unfold without prejudice. This development represents a significant moment in the broader crackdown on financial misconduct involving high-profile figures in Ghana's public and private sectors.
