President Mahama says planned listing of 10 SOEs will cut political meddling.

President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that bringing ten state‑owned enterprises onto the Ghana Stock Exchange will cut political interference and open the door for private sector investment.

The proposed listing is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at ensuring public corporations operate under transparent accounting standards. By mandating that SOEs disclose their financial statements and meet reporting requirements, the government hopes to create a clear audit trail that makes managers answerable to shareholders and the public.

Ghanaians will likely see improved access to capital markets for projects historically financed through state allocations, signalling a shift toward market‑based financing. This could also encourage local investors to participate in enterprises that were previously shielded from competition.

The President stressed that the move aligns with the New Patriotic Party’s commitment to fiscal discipline and prudent resource management. Details regarding the exact firms to be listed were not disclosed, but the initiative is expected to commence within the next fiscal year.

If implemented as outlined, the measure could reshape the relationship between the state and its commercial assets, reinforcing governance pillars that have historically been contested in public discourse.
