Dorimon Naa and Wa West DCE spearhead massive clean-up, threaten sanctions

Paramount Chief of Dorimon and Wa West DCE lead a major sanitation drive, vow stricter enforcement for non‑participants.
The Paramount Chief of the Dorimon Traditional Area, Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salinbile II, joined the Wa West District Chief Executive, Richard Wullo, to spearhead a large communal clean‑up in Dorimon. The exercise marked National Sanitation Day and coincided with World Cleanup Day, targeting the old market, waste container sites, the central market square and the bushy area around the health centre. Naa Alhaji personally swept market corridors, stating that his presence was meant to stress the importance of cleanliness throughout the traditional area. He warned that future clean‑up events would carry tougher penalties, saying divisional chiefs and residents who fail to organise their communities could face sanctions. He added that security personnel might be deployed in upcoming exercises to guarantee compliance. Linking sanitation to public health, the chief said a clean environment boosts productivity, enabling families to work, earn and pay school fees. The DCE echoed the call for sanctions against recalcitrant residents, recalling childhood memories of communal clean‑ups and the existence of bye‑laws supporting enforcement. He stressed that sanitation must extend beyond periodic clean‑ups, urging citizens to adopt proper waste practices daily. The District Environmental Health Officer, Edward Yendow, noted the exercise formed part of a decentralised national campaign under the theme “Small Actions, Greater Impacts,” aligning with the global “From Clean Place to Clean Cities” theme. He highlighted prior radio sensitisation and community engagements focusing on plastic waste management. Yendow explained that clearing weeds and plastic debris from public spaces would lower the risk of sanitation‑related diseases such as malaria, typhoid and cholera.
