CSSPS resolves 83% of placement issues, boarding changes dominate unresolved cases

83% of student placement cases settled as parents and students continue to seek boarding school changes.
30,781 of 37,117 placement cases have been settled by the CSSPS Resolution Centre established by the Ministry of Education. The remaining 6,936 unresolved cases involve students who initially accepted day school placements but later requested conversion to boarding schools. Press Secretary to the Education Ministry, Hashmin Mohammed, explained that many of these students had indicated they selected day schools believing they would increase admission chances at specific institutions. Upon receiving placements, they requested changes to boarding schools often citing distance from their homes. These requests are not new problems but stem from misjudgments during the BECE selection process, according to Mohammed. Most regional resolution centres have completed their work following intervention. However, some prospective SHS students and parents continue visiting the centres for solutions. Students and parents interviewed by the Daily Graphic on September 28, 2026, reported persistent unresolved concerns including boarding conversions and school transfers. A parent, Mr Ebenezer Nortey, shared that he had visited the centre five times without securing the requested change for his daughter placed at Presbyterian Senior Technical School at Larteh. He resides in Teshie, Accra, while his daughter’s school is in the Eastern Region, requiring daily commuting from Accra. Another parent, Samson Mawudo, was placed at Nungua SHS as a day student but lives in Kpone Katamanso, making daily travel impractical. Some students reported being placed in boarding schools they never attended or had to relinquish after family pressure altered their preferences. Olivia, a grateful parent, confirmed her daughter’s successful transfer to Ashaiman Technical Vocational Institute after requesting a change from Agomeda Technical Institute. Despite these successes, unresolved cases highlight ongoing logistical and planning challenges for families navigating school placement outcomes.
